Stitch up these gift pouches in an evening to fill with chocolates, small trinkets and even tree ornament gifts. A layer cake in holiday print will make 21 colorful gift bags. You’ll never be short of a gift again!

These sweet drawstring bags can be used at place settings at the Christmas table, gifts for teachers, neighbors, or any kind of gift giving at any time of year! Choose a different fabric, they’re handy to keep trinkets while travelling, or to use as a small jewelry pouch.

The tutorial suggests making a bag with 8 1/2″ by 8 1/2″ squares, while Carrie Nelson from Moda’s Blog mentioned going ahead and using a layer cake, quick and easy using pre-cuts. Whichever size you choose they make adorable gift pouches in any fabric. Carrie also mentions adding a layer of lightweight fusible interfacing such as Pellon 206F. Carrie suggests:

To add the interfacing, cut a square 5/8″ smaller than the size of the fabric square – a 9-3/8″ square of interfacing for the layer cake square.  The interfacing is centered on the wrong side of the outer-fabric and fused to the fabric.

These adorable Christmas gift bags were made using Urban Chicks new fabric line ‘Swell Christmas’, available from here.

Not just for the Holidays. Make these sweet pouches for any time of year!
